Dr. Baher Butti (PhD in Psychiatry) has many years of expertise in the mental health field as an administrator and hospital psychiatrist in Baghdad, Iraq. Soon after his arrival in Portland as a refugee in 2007, Baher started working as QMHP/ Counselor in IPP/ OHSU then Lutheran Community Services NW/ Multi Cultural Counseling Center. He worked at Lutheran Community Services NW as a case manager for refugees. Soon after arrival to America, Baher engaged in community activities and organizing, and received training by CIO for Immigrants and Refugees community leaders (PILOT). He is the founder of Iraqi Society of Oregon. He is speaker and writer on Psychological traumas of Refugees, and Multicultural issues in several academic and media events. He is member of New Portlanders Advisory Council/ City of Portland, and member of the Public Involvement Advisory Committee/ City of Portland. Baher is expert/ consultant on the Margins to Mainstream project to promote the psychosocial wellbeing of refugees and immigrants, and enhance the formation of a Multicultural Identity, that is based on a comprehensive approach to bring healing, acculturation and community organizing under one conceptual and structural framework.
